The stone sculptures are direct, powerful, and deeply
expressive. "As a refuge for the soul, the sculptures will remind the viewer of
those matters so important in traditional African families - nature and the
environment, the support and sharing within families, the respect for elders and
paying tribute to the spirits, and the role of women and children in society,"
said Roy Guthrie, Curator and Park Director.
The park contains 80 sculptures in
a professional designed park landscape. The park has very nice paths so
the visitor can stroll and enjoy the art. There are many benches
available also. The goal of the park is to connect visitors to a natural
amenity that evokes emotion and ties back to not only African culture
but also to the legacy of Loveland's sculpture heritage.
Loveland Colorado has
become so well known now for its sculpture community. With this addition
it will be classed as a leader in sculpture display throughout the
world.
The garden environment is
extremely pleasant with a winding creek and natural pond called "sky
pond" at it's center. The landscape blends in very well looking natural
for this area.
The garden is easily reached. It
is in the
Promenade Shops a large lifestyle center shopping area. The area is
located on the northeast corner of I-25 and highway 34. The Chapungu
Garden is just east of the shopping area and there is parking galore.
There are also many resturants close by within walking distantance. |
